Well today I tried to eat some more Raw foods – I want to incorporate more of them into our diets (the Beebits too!), but since I have a limited pantry and no food budget, I’m starting small and doing what I can…
So, today for breakfast we had Raw oatmeal (as Raw as I could get, I read that most oats aren’t really raw? Mine probably weren’t, they’re cheap rolled oats but it’s a starts!) I tried Kristen Suzanne’s Good ‘Ol Oatmeal recipe (thanks mom for the books!!!). And you know what? It was (R)AWESOME! *giggle* I forgot to take a picture, but really, it kinda just looked like oatmeal
I soaked my 1 cup of rolled oats overnight in pure water, and then they were ready this morning! I didn’t have enough Brazil nuts to add, so there was only about 1/2 her amount called for, and then added my lil cinnamon, raisins, banana, salt and some stevia instead of agave. The Beebits and I shared a bowl and it was AMAZING! That was theĀ last of my nuts, but I’m going to soak some more oats and we’ll have it again (sans nuts) tomorrow! Yum!
THEN, I tried another of Kristen’s recipes for my lunch, the Greatest Hummus in the World! I was totally prepared to omit the lemon juice because I am not a lemon fan… but when I went out to our apartment ‘yard’ to grab some basil off my plant I have out there (to get more sun than my lil patio offers) I was reminded that we have a lemon tree! Random, I know, but planted in our tiny little (4 apartments!) complex is a FULL grown and fruit bearing lemon tree! I picked 3 ripe ones and took them in to squeeze. I have a little hand juicer so I squeezed out some juice and added it to my hummus, though admittedly still less than it called for lol. I also added some broccoli florets to my mix because after it was all said and done it was kinda runny, but I was out of zucchini. SO, it’s a little ‘tweaked’ from KS’s recipe but it still ROCKS! (And I tasted it before I added the brocc, it was good!) I’m not sure if the Beebits will eat it though, because I got a little crazy with the garlic and it’s a tad spicy, I’ll try it with him and see
I then piled a plate high with torn red leaf lettuce, alfalfa sprouts and chopped tomato, then plopped a big old scoop of my greatest hummus on top and sprinkled the whole business with some nooch. It’s SO tasty! I did also have a piece of my own (baked myself!) whole grain bread with some earth balance on it, so not totally a raw meal, but the majority!
My taste buds are having a party!!
In other news, it’s roughly halfway through December and today shone bright and sunny and approximately 80 degrees. ACK! I like sun too but really? *sigh* I wish I didn’t live in San Diego sometimes! I want seasons! I want winter!
But anywho – since it was so nice, the Beebits and I went on some errands and then to the park
AND he got have a ‘special milk’ from Starbucks for a treat! (I go in and ask for a few oz of soymilk in a cup then filled with water and ice, they never even charge me! He thinks it’s the best thing ever and most Starbucks even use organic vanilla soymilk which is an even bigger treat since we normally only have Plain at home, Wow!)
At the park, I realized he was going to get overheated, in pants and a long sleeve shirt (Hi, we dressed for December) so I put him into the ONE pair of shorts I had with me. After a little while of playing he shouts “Potty Mommy!” and takes off for the bathroom. By the time we got there, he’d kinda dribbled a little, but made big boy peepee in the toilet (YAY, he normally goes just fine when I take him but this was the 1st time at the park he’s told me he needed to go! BIT OF INFO: We have practiced Elimination Communication, since he was 6 months old, so he uses the toilet by himself during the days and he’s just in reg old underwear except when he sleeps, he’s so awesome!) So now he had slightly wet spot in his shorts. Hm. All I had left was sweatpants! Argh! But wait, I see… Yep, a pair of boxer briefs. Well, they look like shorts, right? Hahaha…. I dressed him in his little Lightning McQueen boxer briefs and we went back to play!
Once we got back outside I saw some other little boy with their shirts off, enjoying the sun, so I took the Beebits’ shirt off too and told him to go get some vitamin D, lol… he gets the shirt off and bends down and starts pulling the boxers off too! He says “Naked, Mommy…” Ack!! I said “Oh Honey, No! You can’t be naked at the park, you can be naked at home.” lol… He tried twice but then left his pants on
That’s what I get, I guess, for letting him run free at home
But HEY, on the other hand, he’s potty trained because he’s always been free to run to the toilet too, so… it’s a well worth it trade
It was, like, the best park day we’ve had in months! He had SO much fun! Even though I wish it were “winter”.. I’m glad we got to go out and enjoy this FABULOUS day!!

OH I know already that I could never be 100% Raw (or, rather, I’m pretty sure, lol!) since I like cooked grains, baked potatoes, etc…. Not every day but I want them! I just want to eat MORE Raw foods, and get my little man to like them too, now while he’s still forming tastes
Raw foods def are good for us!!
